Leadership Development and Strategic Advisory for a Health System's Community Health Team

Leadership Case Study

A national health care provider's regional community health team needed stronger leadership capacity to make high-stakes decisions about community investments. The engagement combined assessment, retreats, executive coaching and strategic advisory services.

Abstract blue artwork

Leadership experience. This engagement was delivered by a Washington, DC-based management consulting firm where Altus's founder previously served in executive leadership. We share it to show the experience our leadership brings. It is not presented as Altus Workforce Solutions contract performance. Client details are anonymized.

The challenge

The team oversees major community health investments that address social determinants of health. Its leaders are regularly called on to respond to emerging issues, and their decisions affect a large regional community. The organization wanted a management and leadership development program to match that responsibility.

The approach

  • Reviewed the organizational environment and researched best practices in leadership and executive development
  • Facilitated retreats to surface internal conditions that could impede leadership development
  • Administered MBTI assessments and delivered follow-on management training workshops
  • Provided one-on-one executive coaching focused on management gaps and unconscious bias
  • Delivered strategic advisory services, including planning, data system development, strategic analysis and environmental assessments

The outcome

Each member of the core management team received an assessment and an individual development plan. Management implemented the recommendations in two stages, then expanded the engagement to a broader scope of business advisory services, including a process review.
