Leadership experience. This engagement was delivered by a Washington, DC-based management consulting firm where Altus's founder previously served in executive leadership. The challenge

The agency initiated a comprehensive organizational assessment to find where operational efficiency and effectiveness could improve. Its capital construction division needed a structure and staffing alignment that matched its workload, and leaders needed support to manage the change.

The approach

  • Conducted an internal survey, benchmarking research, stakeholder working sessions and interviews with senior leadership
  • Realigned the organization chart and staffing for the capital construction division
  • Provided executive coaching and leadership realignment to improve structure and management processes
  • Facilitated an all-hands leadership and team-building retreat to strengthen working relationships across the agency
  • Evaluated the work environment to identify where change management could build a stronger learning culture

The outcome

The agency received a roadmap identifying the cultural, organizational, and training and development changes needed to act on the assessment.

Why it matters for Altus clients

Structural change in a public agency lands only when leaders and staff are brought along. Altus pairs organizational design with coaching and facilitation so the new structure is actually used.
