Why It Matters

Disrespect is not always loud. It can be credit taken, a colleague routinely talked over, personal boundaries ignored, or someone left out of decisions that affect them. Left alone, these patterns erode trust and can grow into formal complaints. Employees need a shared understanding of what respectful treatment means and the confidence to address problems early. Organizations that act on respect protect morale, reduce conflict, and lower the risk of escalation into misconduct.

Course Description

Dignity and boundaries sit at the center of this course. Participants begin by defining respectful treatment in their own words and comparing definitions across the group, which often reveals different expectations. They then examine forms of disrespect: belittling, exclusion, taking credit, intrusive questions, ignoring stated boundaries, and misuse of authority. A simple framework helps them weigh intent, impact, and pattern. Practice rounds give everyone a chance to address disrespect from three positions: as the person affected, as a bystander, and as a supervisor receiving a concern. Participants also practice hearing feedback that they were disrespectful without becoming defensive. Discussion clarifies when an issue should move to formal channels. Each participant identifies one boundary to communicate more clearly and one behavior to change.
