Crisis Management
Prepare, respond, communicate, and recover when crisis hits
Why It Matters
Data breaches, facility emergencies, public controversies, funding losses, and service failures rarely announce themselves. Organizations without clear roles and a communication plan lose valuable time arguing about who decides, while rumors fill the gap. The cost lands on clients, staff, and reputation. Leaders who have rehearsed their response make faster, steadier calls, protect people first, and give stakeholders accurate information. Recovery also goes better when the organization captures what it learned.
Course Description
The course runs as a series of escalating tabletop exercises. Participants form crisis teams, assign roles, and respond to an unfolding scenario as new information arrives in staged updates. Between rounds they step back to examine what worked: how the team gathered facts, who made decisions, and how messages reached staff, clients, media, and funders. Teaching segments cover risk identification, crisis plan structure, decision-making under uncertainty, holding statements, and care for employees affected by the event. A final round focuses on recovery and the after-action review. Participants leave with a gap list for their organization's current plan and a draft communication protocol they can adapt.
