CUSTOMER SERVICE
Customer Service
Build the service mindset behind every great customer interaction
Why It Matters
Customers rarely remember the policy. They remember how they were treated. A rushed greeting, a shrug, or a promise that never gets kept can undo good work elsewhere. Front-line staff need a dependable approach that holds up on busy days. Strong service builds loyalty, trust, and referrals, and it reduces complaints that consume management time. For public agencies and nonprofits, it also shapes whether residents and clients feel respected and come back for services they need.
Course Description
The course opens by asking participants to recall a memorable service experience, good or bad, and pull out what made the difference. From there they work through the core moments of a front-line interaction: the greeting, understanding the need, explaining options, and closing with clear next steps. Role plays use participants' own settings, such as a reception desk, a service counter, or a program intake. Peers give feedback on tone, word choice, and body language. Discussion covers internal customers, service under pressure, and taking ownership when the answer is no. Each participant picks two service behaviors to practice and agrees on how they will review progress with a supervisor or colleague.
