Interpersonal Skills
Build working relationships that make collaboration easier
Why It Matters
Most work depends on other people: getting information from another team, handing off a task, or asking for help on a deadline. When relationships are thin, every request takes longer and small misunderstandings become friction. Employees with strong interpersonal skills get cooperation more easily and recover faster when things go wrong. Organizations benefit from smoother handoffs, healthier teams, and a workplace where people want to stay.
Course Description
The course centers on four relationship skills used every day. Participants practice active listening through structured exercises where one person speaks and the other must summarize before responding. Empathy work focuses on understanding a coworker's situation and pressures before making a request. A rapport segment covers finding common ground, remembering details, and building trust through small kept promises. Collaboration practice puts participants in short team tasks, followed by debriefs on what helped and what got in the way. Discussion draws on participants' own relationships at work, including one that feels strained or distant. Each person identifies a relationship to strengthen and specific actions to take over the coming weeks, with a check-in point to reflect on progress.
