Why It Matters

Many organizations have a values statement about inclusion but little change in daily practice. Who gets stretch assignments, whose ideas get credited, how meetings run, and how policies are applied all shape whether people stay and contribute. Leaders and HR teams need a practical way to examine those systems, not just individual attitudes. Inclusive practices help organizations recruit from a wider talent pool, retain strong performers, and serve diverse communities more effectively.

Course Description

The lens here is organizational. Leaders and HR partners examine where inclusion is won or lost across the employee lifecycle: recruiting, onboarding, assignments, feedback, promotion, and exit. Small groups use a simple practice review to assess one process in their own organization, identifying where decisions rely on informal networks or unclear criteria. Discussion covers inclusive meeting design, equitable access to development opportunities, and how leaders signal what is valued through what they reward. Participants also consider how to gather employee input and track progress without reducing inclusion to a headcount. Case examples are adapted to public-sector, nonprofit, or private settings as needed. The session ends with each team drafting one or two practical changes, an owner for each, and a date to review results.
