Hiring Strategies
Make fairer, better-informed hiring decisions with structured selection
Why It Matters
Unstructured interviews feel natural, but they tend to reward confidence, familiarity, and similarity to the interviewer rather than ability to do the job. A bad hire costs time, money, and team morale, and inconsistent decisions can create fairness and legal concerns. Structured selection gives every candidate the same questions and every panel the same yardstick. Hiring managers make decisions they can explain, candidates get a fairer process, and the organization hires people more likely to succeed.
Course Description
This course picks up once applicants are in hand and focuses on how to choose among them. Participants start by turning a job description into a short list of criteria tied to real job tasks. They then write behavioral and situational interview questions for those criteria and build scoring guides that describe weak, solid, and strong answers. Mock interviews give each participant a turn as interviewer, candidate, and scorer, followed by a calibration discussion comparing scores. A segment on common biases, such as first impressions and similarity, includes practical safeguards. The course closes with decision-making: running a debrief, weighing evidence, and checking references. Participants leave with a selection toolkit for an upcoming opening.
