Why It Matters

Organizations often blame the labor market when positions stay open, but the problem frequently starts earlier: postings full of jargon, requirements that screen out capable people, a narrow set of sourcing channels, and applicants who never hear back. Each of these shrinks the pool. Recruitment done well reaches more qualified candidates, including people who would not have applied otherwise, and builds a reputation as an employer worth considering. That matters for every hire that follows.

Course Description

The course covers the front end of hiring, from defining the need to the point when applicants enter selection. Participants start with a real or sample opening and rewrite its job posting, cutting jargon, separating true requirements from preferences, and describing the work in language candidates understand. Peers review each draft from an applicant's perspective. A sourcing segment compares channels, including referrals, community partners, workforce programs, schools, and job boards, and helps participants pick the right mix for different roles. Participants then map the candidate experience from first contact through application and identify where people drop out. The session ends with each participant planning one recruitment improvement to test.
