Why It Matters

Many new employees get a laptop, a stack of policies, and little else. They take longer to contribute, make avoidable mistakes, and some leave within the first year, taking the cost of recruiting with them. Structured onboarding fixes that by treating the first months as a planned process with owners and milestones. New hires feel welcomed and useful sooner, managers spend less time repairing confusion, and the organization protects its investment in every hire.

Course Description

Participants approach onboarding as a design project. They start by mapping their organization's current experience from the new hire's point of view and noting gaps and pain points. The course then walks through four phases: preboarding after offer acceptance, the first day, the first weeks, and the ninety day mark. For each phase, small groups build checklists, assign owners, and decide what new hires should know, do, and feel. A segment on buddy programs and manager check-ins includes practice in a thirty day check-in conversation. Participants also discuss how to adapt onboarding for remote, part-time, and seasonal staff. Each team leaves with a draft onboarding plan and a timeline to pilot it.
