Leading Virtual Teams
Build trust and manage performance when your team works remotely
Why It Matters
Remote and hybrid work has removed many of the informal moments where managers used to notice problems, build relationships, and coach. Without them, remote staff can feel isolated, overlooked, or unsure of expectations, while managers either over-monitor or lose track. Leading a virtual team well requires intentional practices for connection and fairness. Managers who build them keep teams engaged and productive, and organizations keep the flexibility that helps them attract and retain talent.
Course Description
Aimed squarely at the manager, the course focuses on leading people rather than on team tools or workflows. Participants assess how connected, informed, and supported their remote staff feel and identify blind spots. They practice virtual one-on-ones that go beyond status updates, including noticing signs of disengagement or overload on camera and in written messages. A team-building segment explores low-effort rituals that build trust across distance, and small groups design one for their team. Scenarios address fairness issues, such as proximity bias toward in-office staff, and a remote employee whose work has slipped. Participants leave with a virtual leadership plan covering connection, communication, and performance.
