PRODUCTIVITY & WELLBEING
Telework and Telecommuting
Personal routines and boundaries for productive work from home
Why It Matters
Teleworkers face problems office workers rarely think about: a kitchen-table desk, constant household interruptions, the pull to answer messages late at night, and the feeling of being out of the loop. Without deliberate habits, productivity becomes uneven and isolation sets in. Individuals who build strong telework routines perform consistently and protect their personal time. Organizations with telework policies benefit when staff work independently, communicate proactively, and stay engaged from anywhere.
Course Description
The individual teleworker is the focus. Participants assess their current setup across four areas, workspace, schedule, communication, and boundaries, then build improvements in each. Workspace covers practical setup and minimizing household distractions. Schedule covers start and shutdown rituals, planning the day, and taking breaks. Communication covers proactive status updates, asking for help remotely, and staying visible without overcommunicating. Boundaries cover separating work from home life and handling late-evening messages. Participants also discuss isolation and practical ways to stay connected with colleagues. Short practice exercises include writing a clear end-of-day update and scripting a conversation with household members about work time. Each participant leaves with a personal telework plan to share with their supervisor.
