Why It Matters

Most knowledge workers are not short on time so much as short on uninterrupted focus. Chat messages, email alerts, and open-door interruptions break concentration dozens of times a day, and each switch carries a cost in errors and lost momentum. For individuals, that means complex work drifts into evenings. For organizations, it means slower analysis, more rework, and talented people who feel busy but unproductive. Managing attention, not just schedules, closes that gap.

Course Description

Instead of starting with a planner, this course starts with an attention audit. Participants track where their focus actually went across a typical workday and identify their biggest sources of interruption, both external (notifications, drop-ins, meetings) and internal (worry, unfinished tasks, the urge to check). Guided practice follows: configuring notification settings on the tools they already use, designing a protected focus block, and building a quick re-entry routine for getting back on task after an interruption. The group discusses how to set focus norms with teammates without seeming unavailable. Participants also map their own energy patterns and match demanding work to their sharpest periods. The session closes with a two-week focus experiment each person commits to, plus a simple way to review what worked.

Key Focus Areas

  • The real cost of task switching and multitasking

  • Setting team norms for focus time and response expectations

Learning Outcomes
