Supervising Others

Run the daily work of a frontline team with clarity

Why It Matters

Frontline supervisors shape most employees' daily experience of work. When assignments are unclear, progress goes unchecked, or problems are addressed inconsistently, quality drops and frustration rises fast. Many supervisors juggle their own tasks alongside the team's and run on instinct rather than routine. Solid supervision habits make the job manageable for the supervisor, give staff clear direction, and keep service, safety, and quality steady for the people the organization serves.

Course Description

Hands-on and grounded in the routines of a typical day and week, the course starts with participants describing their team's work and identifying where things break down most often. They practice assigning work with clear instructions and priorities, then build a simple way to monitor progress without hovering. Short coaching conversations on the job get practice in pairs, including correcting a mistake in the moment and recognizing good work. Scenarios cover uneven workloads, a staff member who keeps missing steps, and competing requests from above. Participants also design a brief team huddle format. Each supervisor leaves with a weekly supervision routine to try and a check-in date with their manager to review it.
