Applying Emotional Intelligence at Work

Use emotional intelligence when feedback, conflict, and pressure hit

Why It Matters

Most people can describe emotional intelligence. Fewer can use it when a deadline is slipping, a colleague is angry, or a decision lands badly. In those moments, reactions spread quickly through a team. A short temper or a dismissive reply can undo months of trust. Leaders and team members who manage their own reactions and read others accurately keep tough conversations productive, lower team tension, and make better decisions when stakes are high.

Course Description

The course assumes participants know the basic ideas of emotional intelligence and focuses on application. Each segment centers on a high-pressure workplace situation. Participants work through scenarios such as delivering unwelcome news, mediating between two frustrated team members, responding to a public challenge in a meeting, and leading through a stressful deadline. For each, they identify the emotions in play, choose a response, and practice it with feedback from peers. Short reflection exercises help participants spot their own early warning signs and the situations that trigger them. Participants leave with a personal plan for one recurring high-pressure situation and a partner to check in with on how it went.
