Why It Matters

People form impressions quickly, often before a word is spoken, and those impressions influence trust, hiring decisions, and how feedback is received. Yet nonverbal cues are easy to misread. Folded arms might mean defensiveness or simply a cold room. Teams that understand body language communicate with more consistency, notice when a conversation is going off track, and avoid snap judgments that can damage relationships across cultures and generations.

Course Description

Rather than offering a list of "tells," the course builds awareness of clusters of signals and the context around them. Participants observe short scenarios, note what they see, and compare interpretations with others, which quickly shows how varied readings can be. They then examine their own habits in interviews, meetings, video calls, and customer interactions, practicing an open stance, steady eye contact, and gestures that support their words. A segment on cultural norms covers differences in eye contact, distance, and touch, and why checking an assumption with a question beats guessing. Participants close by choosing one nonverbal habit to adjust and a situation where they will try it, with a simple way to gather feedback from a trusted colleague.

Key Focus Areas

Participants explore and practice:

  • Posture, gestures, and facial expressions that support or undercut your message

  • Eye contact and personal space norms across cultures

  • Reading clusters of cues in context rather than single signals

  • Nonverbal presence on video calls and in virtual meetings

  • Aligning tone of voice and body language with spoken words

  • Checking interpretations with questions instead of assumptions

  • Identify nonverbal signals that reinforce or contradict a spoken message

  • Adjust posture, eye contact, and gestures for interviews and meetings

  • Interpret cue clusters while accounting for context and culture
