Contract Management
Manage contracts after award with fewer surprises
Why It Matters
Most contract problems are not caused by bad drafting. They come from missed deadlines, informal scope changes, weak documentation, and invoices that do not match the terms. For vendors, that means unpaid work, disputes, and poor past performance ratings. For agencies and nonprofits managing contractors, it means delayed services and audit findings. People who manage contracts with discipline protect revenue, relationships, and the organization's standing for future awards.
Course Description
Participants learn by working a contract from kickoff to closeout. Starting with a sample statement of work and terms, they build a deliverables and obligations tracker, identify reporting and invoicing requirements, and plan a kickoff meeting with the other party. Midway through, a scenario introduces a scope change requested informally by a program contact, and teams decide how to respond and document it through a proper modification. Further exercises cover performance monitoring, handling disputes, maintaining a contract file, and closing out cleanly. Discussion highlights differences between commercial and government contracting, including the role of the contracting officer. Participants leave with a tracker and checklist adapted to a contract they currently manage.
