Supply Chain Management
Strengthen procurement, inventory, logistics, and supplier relationships
Why It Matters
Supply chain problems show up everywhere: a program cannot launch because materials arrived late, a food bank runs short, a contractor's supplier fails, or inventory ties up cash on shelves. Many people managing these functions learned on the job and see only their own piece. Understanding the whole chain helps teams anticipate disruptions, negotiate better with suppliers, and control costs, so customers and communities receive what they need on time.
Course Description
Participants trace a supply chain from need to delivery, using their own organization or a case. They learn the core links: demand planning, sourcing and procurement, supplier selection, inventory management, warehousing, transportation, and returns. A multi-round simulation shows how small changes in ordering ripple through the chain and create shortages or surplus. Workshops cover building supplier scorecards, setting reorder points, and weighing total cost of ownership instead of unit price. Discussion addresses risk and resilience, including single-source dependence and backup suppliers, along with public procurement rules that shape government purchasing. Participants close by identifying one weak link in their own chain and planning an improvement.
