Elevator Pitch

Introduce yourself, your program, or your business in a few sentences

Why It Matters

Opportunities often start with a brief conversation: a career fair, a chamber event, a hallway chat with a potential funder. People who cannot explain who they are and what they offer in a few sentences lose the moment. For job seekers, a strong pitch opens doors to referrals. For program staff and small business owners, it helps partners and buyers grasp the value quickly. Organizations benefit when every representative tells a clear, consistent story.

Course Description

Participants build a pitch from the ground up using a simple sequence: who you are, what you do or offer, who it helps, what makes it distinct, and what you want next. They draft a version for their primary purpose, whether that is a job search, a program, or a business, then trim it until every word earns its place. Rehearsal rounds in small groups give immediate feedback on clarity, energy, and the closing ask. Participants then adapt the pitch for different listeners, such as a recruiter, a potential partner, or a community member, and practice moving naturally from pitch to conversation. Each person leaves with a finished pitch, a shorter variation, and a plan to use it at an upcoming event.

Key Focus Areas

Participants explore and practice:

  • A five-part structure for a concise, memorable introduction

  • Pitch versions for job seekers, programs, and small businesses

  • Ending with a clear, appropriate ask

  • Adapting the pitch for recruiters, partners, and funders

  • Delivering naturally without sounding rehearsed

  • Moving from pitch into two-way conversation
