Why It Matters

An executive's time is one of an organization's scarcest resources. An assistant who only reacts to requests keeps the calendar full, while one who anticipates keeps it focused on what matters. The difference shows up in better-prepared meetings, faster decisions, and fewer dropped commitments. The role also demands judgment about confidential information and how to represent the executive. Investing in these skills strengthens both the assistant's career and the leader's effectiveness.

Course Description

Participants examine what a true partnership with an executive looks like, starting with how well they understand their leader's goals, preferences, and pressures. They practice structuring a weekly priorities meeting, then work on calendar strategy: protecting focus time, sequencing meetings, and declining requests on the executive's behalf. Exercises include preparing a one-page briefing packet and drafting correspondence in the executive's voice. Case discussions explore confidentiality, gatekeeping, and handling sensitive requests from senior colleagues. Participants also map recurring deadlines to spot what they can prepare before being asked. Each person drafts an agenda for a partnership conversation with their executive and a plan to revisit how the working relationship is going.
