Why It Matters

Many job seekers apply to dozens of postings, hear nothing, and lose momentum. The problem is often strategy, not effort: applications are untargeted, leads are scattered, and follow-up never happens. A structured search makes each application count and keeps motivation steady. For workforce programs and employers building talent pipelines, participants who can manage their own search move toward employment with more independence and need less one-on-one case support.

Course Description

Participants build a working job search system they can use the day after the course. They begin by defining target roles, industries, and employers based on skills and interests, then learn where openings appear, including referrals, employer sites, public-sector portals, and community job boards. Application practice covers reading a posting closely, matching qualifications honestly, and deciding which openings are worth the effort. A tracking segment introduces a simple log for applications, contacts, deadlines, and next steps. Follow-up practice covers polite check-in messages and thank-you notes. The course connects to sibling courses without repeating them: resumes are rebuilt in the Resume Workshop, and interviews are rehearsed in Mock Interview Practice. Each participant leaves with weekly search goals.
