Managing Anger at Work
Spot your triggers early and respond in ways you won't regret
Why It Matters
A sharp email, a raised voice in a meeting, a door closed too hard. One heated moment can undo months of credibility and leave coworkers wary. Unaddressed anger also spreads: teams start avoiding hard topics, and small irritations grow into conflicts that managers spend weeks untangling. Employees who can manage their own reactions keep relationships intact and get their concerns heard. Organizations get fewer escalations, calmer customer interactions, and a workplace where disagreement stays productive.
Course Description
The focus is practical and personal: your own reactions on the job. It is general professional development, not a clinical or court-ordered program. Participants start by mapping the situations that reliably set them off at work, such as missed handoffs, interruptions, or perceived disrespect, along with the physical and mental cues that show up first. From there, the group practices quick de-escalation techniques they can use mid-conversation: pausing, reframing the story they are telling themselves, and naming the issue without blame. Short role plays let people rehearse responding to a frustrating email, a dismissive comment, and a tense one-on-one. Peers give feedback on tone and wording. Each participant leaves with a personal plan listing two or three trigger situations and the response they will try next time.
