Why It Matters

Office injuries are often slow and quiet: aching backs and wrists from poor workstation setup, falls over cords and boxes, or confusion during a fire alarm. They lead to lost workdays, workers' compensation claims, and lower morale. Because offices feel low risk, prevention gets overlooked. A few practical habits and a clear emergency plan protect employees and visitors, and help office managers meet their responsibility for a safe workplace.

Course Description

This course focuses specifically on office environments, including home offices for hybrid staff. Participants start with a workstation self-assessment and practice adjusting chair, monitor, keyboard, and lighting, then build short movement breaks into their day. A walkthrough exercise, using photos or the actual workspace, has teams identify slip, trip, electrical, storage, and fire hazards and decide on fixes. The emergency segment covers evacuation routes, assembly points, shelter-in-place, floor warden roles, and assisting colleagues with disabilities. Participants also review how to report hazards and near misses. Content can be matched to the organization's own building plan. Each participant leaves with a completed workstation checklist and a clear picture of their emergency role.
