Organizational Assessment

Diagnose capacity gaps and set clear improvement priorities

Why It Matters

Leaders often sense that something is off: missed targets, slow processes, burnout, or friction between departments. Without a structured assessment, they reorganize, buy new systems, or launch initiatives that treat symptoms. A sound organizational assessment shows where capacity is strong and where it is limiting results. It gives boards, funders, and staff a shared fact base, and it focuses scarce improvement resources on the issues that matter most.

Course Description

Participants learn to run an assessment the way an internal consultant would. They start by agreeing on purpose and scope with a sponsor, then select a framework that covers areas such as leadership, governance, strategy, people, processes, systems, and finances. Practice segments include drafting interview and survey questions, reviewing documents and performance data, and facilitating a focus group. Teams then analyze sample findings from a case organization, look for patterns across sources, and separate root causes from symptoms. The final segment covers prioritizing recommendations by impact and feasibility and presenting difficult findings constructively. Participants leave with an assessment plan for their own organization or unit.
