Why It Matters

Organizations invest real effort in strategic planning, then lose momentum within months as daily demands take over. Goals are too many or too vague, nobody owns them, and progress reviews fade. The gap between strategy and execution wastes resources and erodes staff confidence in leadership. A disciplined approach that links priorities to budgets, projects, and performance measures helps leaders focus, helps staff see how their work connects, and lets boards and funders track real progress.

Course Description

A plan only matters once it is executed, so this course concentrates on the practical side of strategy. Participants work with their own organization or a case. They begin by testing mission and vision for clarity, then analyze the current position using internal assessment and environmental scan findings. Teams practice choosing a small set of strategic priorities and writing goals with measurable objectives. Implementation planning follows: initiatives, owners, timelines, resource needs, and a scorecard of leading and lagging indicators. A simulation of quarterly review meetings shows how to adjust the plan when conditions change. Participants leave with an implementation plan outline and a review calendar.
