Personal Finance Essentials
Budgeting, saving, and credit basics explained in plain language
Why It Matters
Financial strain is one of the most common sources of worry for working adults, and it often affects focus, attendance, and job decisions. Many people never received basic financial education, and the information they find online is confusing or sales-driven. Clear, neutral education on budgeting, saving, and credit helps employees and program participants make more confident everyday decisions. Employers and workforce programs that offer it signal real support for financial stability.
Course Description
Content is general, practical, and free of product recommendations. Participants build a simple monthly budget using a sample or their own numbers, kept private, and compare common budgeting approaches. They then set a short-term savings goal and explore ways to start an emergency fund. A segment on credit explains what appears on a credit report, what influences a credit score, and how to check reports and dispute errors. Participants also compare debt repayment strategies and learn to recognize predatory lending and common scams. Discussion touches on how employer benefits such as retirement plans fit in, at an introductory level. Everyone leaves with a budget template, a savings goal, and a short list of next steps. This is education, not individualized financial advice.
