Why It Matters

Work now happens across email, chat, video, shared documents, and social platforms, and the line between personal and professional online life is thin. A careless reply-all, a heated comment, or an old post can damage relationships and reputations. Young professionals entering the workforce and seasoned staff alike benefit from clear norms. Organizations gain respectful collaboration, fewer online conflicts, and employees who represent the brand thoughtfully in public spaces.

Course Description

Participants begin by searching for their own public digital footprint and reflecting on what an employer, client, or partner might conclude. From there, discussion and scenarios cover respectful tone in chat and email, video meeting etiquette, privacy settings, and the difference between personal opinion and speaking for an organization. A media literacy segment practices checking sources and recognizing misinformation before sharing it. Participants also work through cases involving online conflict, cyberbullying, and inappropriate messages, deciding when to disengage, document, or report. The session adapts well for youth workforce programs and early-career cohorts as well as experienced employees. Each participant leaves with personal digital norms they commit to practice.
