Why It Matters

People spend a large share of their waking life at work, and how they feel there shapes energy, relationships, and the quality of what they produce. Yet happiness is often treated as luck or personality. Research in positive psychology points to factors people can influence: relationships, a sense of purpose, gratitude, and how they respond to setbacks. Exploring these practices helps employees take an active role in their wellbeing and supports more positive, connected teams.

Course Description

The tone is reflective and practical. Participants start by considering what contributes to their own sense of satisfaction, and what drains it, without comparing themselves to anyone else. Next comes a set of research-informed practices: noting things that went well, expressing gratitude to a colleague, strengthening work relationships, connecting tasks to a larger purpose, and using strengths more often. Each practice includes a brief try-it activity and an honest discussion of its limits; none is a cure-all, and results differ from person to person. Small groups explore how teams can create everyday moments of appreciation and connection. Participants choose two practices to experiment with over the following weeks and note how they will review whether those practices are helping.
